AMS (North East) LLP are nearing completion of their bespoke web based, secure login, total asbestos management system. The system will allow all our clients to manage their asbestos using a user friendly completley secure portal. The system will allow you to hold a live project archive of all your asbestos management documentation, including survey registers, tender documents, technical specifications, method statements, project communications, site and contractor audits and 4 satge clearance re-occupation certificates. The ASK system is certain to make the duty holders life alot easier.....watch this space.

Marie has has a wealth of experience in the asbestos industry acting as a Quality Manager for a very well established consultancy for the past 7 years. AMS (North East) LLP are now set for our initial UKAS assessment. UKAS will be visiting on the 9th of October and again in November to carry out both Quality and Technical Assessments on our system. Warning of asbestos dangers after prosecution
HSE has warned companies to take extra care when demolishing buildings containing asbestos cement sheets. The warning comes after Wye Valley Demolition Ltd of St Weonards, Hereford, was today (18th May) fined £6,000 and asked to pay costs of £13,621.49 at Hereford Magistrates’ Court following the release of asbestos during the demolition of a former grain store building in Bodenham.

Taking risks with asbestos
Asbestos is the single greatest cause of work related fatalities, and is still present in many buildings from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. Today, the workers most at risk of contracting an asbestos related disease are those in construction related trades who conduct maintenance work on these buildings. This report presents the results of 60 interviews with maintenance workers (including electricians, joiners/carpenters, plumbers/heating engineers, and painters/ decorators), who discuss their attitudes towards, knowledge about, and behaviour around, asbestos.

Construction firms reminded to assess electricity risk
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has warned construction companies to carry out proper risk assessments especially where there are overhead power lines close to work activities. The warning comes after a worker was electrocuted when the machinery he was operating came in contact with 11kv power lines on a North Wales site.
